Data sources

VivaMap uses only official open-data sources — primarily Swiss federal sources, complemented by OpenStreetMap for points of interest. No proprietary databases, no commercial licences. This page lists every source actually used in production with its licence, update cadence, and direct link to the official portal.

Why open data only?

Two reasons. (1) Durability: access conditions on a commercial database can change overnight. Federal open geodata are guaranteed by the Geoinformation Act (GeoIG). (2) Trust: everything is traceable, everything is citable, with no confidentiality clauses.

Federal sources

Most environmental, demographic, and tax data come from federal offices. The default licence for federal geoinformation is Open by default (attribution required, no share-alike obligation).

Third-party sources

For point-of-interest density — health, education, dining, culture, leisure — VivaMap relies on OpenStreetMap, the global community mapping project.

Recompute cadence

Scores are recomputed on every major source update: yearly for most (Arealstatistik on a ~12-year cycle but GWR quarterly; noise, public-transport, taxation yearly), quarterly for OpenStreetMap. No real-time refresh: VivaMap reflects long-term average use, not the instantaneous state of a neighborhood.

Report a source error

A broken URL? A licence misstated? A missing source that should be listed? All computation code, configuration files, and URLs are versioned in the open. Corrections are welcome — see the Methodology page for technical details.
